1. Ask yourself these three questions if you think you’re ready to write your book
Have you been on the fence about writing a book? If your work ethic is on point and you’re the kind of leader who finishes what you start, here are three important things to consider before taking the next step:
Do I have a platform – an audience ready to receive my input?
Do I have a great idea that’s new and fresh?
Can I write that great idea well?
If you have two out of three in your pocket – go for it! Three out of three – you’re golden! Get to writing and then set out to find a team that will support you and take your vision further than you could ever imagine.
2. Self-publishers can’t compete with distributing their work the way a big publisher can
If you believe your book is bigger than your current audience and can make a difference for more people than you know how to reach – you need to find a publisher.
A publisher has the ability to grow your audience and distribute your work way more than you ever could on your own. Not only that, a great publisher takes the lonely out of writing. The hours spent working in isolation can really mess with your head and confidence. Having a team of people available to give feedback and encouragement is uplifting and makes your work stronger.
3. There are pitfalls to having a platform when you’re a pastor promoting a book
We live in an age where millions of people can be reached easily in a matter of seconds. Obviously, great things can come from having a platform, but there are some pitfalls, too. Especially when you’re a pastor ready to launch a product that you’ve devoted hours and hours of your time to create.
Leaders in ministry are used to giving away their content with no financial return. Obviously, it’s what we do on Sundays and all throughout the week for the people who enter our churches. So when it’s time to promote a book to an audience used to getting everything for free, they may be hesitant to pay for that pre-order.
Do you have an audience that’s used to buying from you? Start working towards building an audience that’s used to being transactional to avoid this platform pitfall.
